Baby it's cold outside

18 degrees this morning in LaGrange.

That is cold for here this time of the year.

I had to decide if breakfast or staying under warm covers which one was the best choice.

When I was a kid for heat we had coal burning fireplaces or a pot belly stove and later on when the city ran gas lines to houses space heaters.

Never was heat left on at night.

Those patch quilts piled so high it felt like being encased in cement kept you warm.

Those cold mornings and the first steps on bare painted wood floors made  emergency runs to the bathroom just that an emergency.

No wonder carpeted floors became a big hit.
