Good!

Would I lie to you?

Do you really think I could?

Everything I say is the gospel truth right?

Believe me?

Good!

Time for the fair

About that time.

Time for the fair to come around.

Each October they use to show up in small Georgia towns for a week.

Nights would be getting cool just right for a light jacket.

Those wonderful smells.Corn dogs, candied apples, french fries all those delicious smells just thinking of them makes my mouth water.

Sawdust covering the ground, crowds of people. All those games of chance. The rides.Ferris wheels, bumper cars the merry go round.

I can still see, smell and hear it all in my minds eye.

Ghost dog

Shiny white almost glittering and very fast.

12 years old and my friend and next door neighbor Doug was staying over on a Friday night.East Newnan,Georgia the year was 1964.

Washing our faces in cold water trying to stay awake long enough so we could watch Bestoink Dooley's scary/horror movies on WAGA channel 5 that came on after the 10 pm news.Movies like Dracula,Frankenstein where shown nothing like the gory to real movies of today.

It wasn't working so outside on the back porch we went.An October night and it was cool. The air was refreshing and it was working.

Wide awake now.

Sitting on the steps of the small high porch looking at the starry sky above us just killing time.

Across the street was a patch of trees.

Something caught our eye.Who seen it first I don't remember.

Running right to left in front of us is what we called a large collie sized dog in the trees.

I think it was a dog.If it made a sound never did we hear it.

It was fast.Just a second or so and it was gone.

It was bright like it was illuminated all we could make out was the shape.

The ghost dog we named it.

Never was it seen again.

Can you feel it?

Can you feel it?

I sure can.Has the Earth shifted on it's axis again?

Has there been some unnoticed calamity of nature that slipped by us?

Stop.Be still.Yeah you noticed it I bet.

Doesn't it feel like the world has tilted a little bit to the right?

Back in 2004 when that big tidal wave hit and all those people died it changed the Earth.Time slowed down, the North Pole shifted a few feet, the Earth was knocked off it axis some.

To me it feels like I'm leaning to the right. In bed flop there I go automatically to the right. If it wasn't for a bed rail most likely in the floor I would end up.Sitting in my chair people say I'm crooked but no I just tilt to the right.

Something has changed.

The world has tilted or maybe my spine is getting a little curve to it tilting me to the right. Most likely the latter is the case.

Room 31 mystery

A mystery of sorts is facing room 31.

Or has the struggles of life finally caught up with me?Maybe I'm losing what little good sense I did have.Let me explain.

I've wrote before of strange things that have gone on down here in 31.

The small half dollar size light that appears when someone here at the home dies.I see it floating around on the ceiling when it happens.

The knocking on the wall at night over in the PT room when it's closed and no one is there.

Now something else has started here in room 31.

Pennies.Might be pennies from Heaven or something I don't know. But pennies are being found under our beds down here.

It started last week when I noticed one under Mr B's bed.It was picked up by someone but reappeared the next day.

Today I noticed that all the beds in here all 4 had a penny under them. Not anywhere else in the room just under each bed.

Maybe somebody can explain this.Should we be worried or maybe we just need a piggy bank.

I don't think so

Would Dale Earnhardt do this?

How about Mickey Mantle or Hank Arron?

No I don't think they would.

I was watching football on TV yesterday and it was seen again.Supposedly big bad strong men really kids doing something that irks the daylights out of me.

That skipping around like little girls when they do something good. It's just way to much I think.

To be fair baseball players have their on version of that skipping thing. They when happy will bounce up and down like they are on Pogo sticks. And what about that hugging thing? That's ok even I hug other men but baseball players do it the wrong man to man way with both arms and the hugs last just a little to long in my book.

Now with all this said come here give me a hug.

Just think what I could do

I'm saving my pennies.Being nice for Santa.I want one of these things.

Just think what I could do.

Things like get up out of my chair, stand and a little thing called walk.

The marvels of new technology.

Again independence would be mine.

Thanks to God for giving people the knowledge and insight to invent things like this.

It's National Cheeseburger Day!

Leave it alone

Don't mess with a good thing.If it ain't broke don't fix it.Leave it alone I'm telling ya.

The great American meal.

Burger and fries. Not these fancy masterpiece hamburgers with a little bit of everything under the sun on them.

KISS.Keep it simple stupid. All you need is a fresh beef pattie not to big not to small, grill over the fire or fried don't ruin a good thing by broiling it.All  you need to add is salt, pepper, extra sharp cheese, lettuce and a dill pickle. If you got to be creative and fancy chili and crispy thick sliced bacon is allowed.

Please don't forget the onion.

That's it.Stop right now .I'm telling you put down what ever else you where thinking about putting on that burger.

Now the fries.

Just slice a potato to the size of french fries you like and deep fry in real oil, vegetable or even lard salt and enjoy. To make the meal even more delicious fry up some onion rings.

Now for my Daddy's trick, when the burger is still in the pan lay your hamburger bun on top of the pattie and let it soak up some of the grease.

High calories, fat and cholesterol but great eating.

I've made myself hungry!

Many

Very few people have I been mad at.

Many have disappointed me.

No bullet holes in me

Stupid man me.

Years ago laying in bed I heard some sort of commotion outside.Being the curious type I had to check it out.

There it was, walking down the street,a man, obviously intoxicated cussing up a storm at who I didn't see.

Then.

A car drove up slowly and stopped in front of the house next door.

Several guys jumped out the car and what happened next seemed like a cartoon in slow motion.

BAM BAM BAM!

Shots fired.Fire coming out of the barrels of their blazing guns. Each shooter jumping into the air after each shot.

The shootee I guess was the drunk man but he wasn't so drunk that he didn't have the gumption to run.In the opposite direction I might add.

This is where I come into the picture.

The drunk guy was in front of my house when the shooting started,me not being the smartest person just stood at the door watching all of this.Least the drunk guy ran I just stood there and watched it all like it was a movie.

Far as I know the shooters didn't hit the shootee.

The shots had to come my way.I never found any bullets holes in my house or the old red Ford pickup parked in the line of fire.

Most important no bullet holes in me.

Just here to help part two

It has come to my attention that some of the people I have daily contact with here at the old folks home need further educating in how to speak Georgian and be understood and to understand.

During our last lesson which was to help all those Yankees ooops excuse me people north of Hogansville,Georgia with the basic concept of speaking proper English language it seems the lesson wasn't covered in depth enough.

So with love and respect for my Yankee ooops north of Hogansville,Georgia brethren and sisters I will explain a few more words you can use to be understood and to understand.

So friend pull you up a cheer(remember that is the proper way to pronounce chair)and lesson number 2 in our series will begin.

Now there are 4 kinds of cow milk can you name them?Buttermilk, skim, and chocolate are the easy ones but the 4th is what? The answer is sweet milk.Yankees ooops people north of Hogansville,Georgia incorrectly call it whole milk.

Now down here in Georgia and sometimes that western state of Alabama familes tend to be quite large.I'm talking chillins of 12 to 15 or more.I don't really know how Yankees ooops people North of Hogansville,Georgia do it but down here there is a thing called a pallet.A pallet is when grown folks take old patch quilt blankets spread them out on the flo(remember that is how floor is correctly pronounced)and that's where all your brethren and sisters slept separately may I add or when your family visited with kin folks and all the cousins slept on a pallet.

Well my Dear Yankee ooops friends and I might add loved ones north of Hogansville,Georgia that is enough of lesson 2.We shall meet again and proceed with lesson 3 soon.

Just because you where not fortunate enough to be born in Georgia don't despair you to can with practice learn to speak proper English.

Super crime fighting trio heroes

Super crime fighting trio  heroes.

My ideal choice would be Carl from Slingblade"got any taters hum",Mongo from Blazing Saddles"Mongo just pawn in game of life-",and Forest Gump from Forest Gump"you can't fix stupid".

And as the Beaver our backup for the super crime fighting trio heroes Steve"got any cheese?"Erckel.

Yes with this combination the world can rest and sleep easy at nights.

My reasons why.

Carl.He is a man of few words and what he thinks he does.Never would he have mortal man fear.

Mongo.Any man that can knock down a horse with one swing from his powerful fist would be needed and appreciated in any skirmish.

Forest. Now Forest is just a brave hero type person. He sacrificed his own safety to save Bubba in Vietnam getting wounded in the buttocks during the situation.Plus Forest played football for Coach Bear Bryant at the University of Alabama.

Yes the new three Musketeers plus Steve.

Sleep good America the super crime fighting trio heroes have got this!

Dude!!! Where's my grilled cheese?

Room 31 has a new roommate.

It's going to be interesting folks.

A little background information. Room 31 has 4 beds,A B C D.31 B is my personal space as I refer to it(I always have to remind my friend Gary that he is invading my personal space which is a story for another time).

Now bed 31C has a history.

I hate to say it but maybe that bed is jinxed, cursed or just plain unlucky.

Everyone that ends up in 31C either dies or how do I put this...has a personality conflict. It happens every time never fails.

Well guess what our new roomie is no different.Last evening around 5 pm he was wheeled into our humble abode.

When I returned back to the room last night I noticed a few things.First off I noticed a grilled cheese sandwich I had planned on being a snack later on was gone. The plastic storage bag was laying in the floor. The CNA said my laptop and other stuff I keep on a table where laying on the bed when she came into the room.I also noticed a pack of half eaten Cheetos laying on my table which the CNA said she had found laying under my pillow.Maybe it was a trade for the cheese sandwich but the Cheetos really belong to Wille my other roomie.

That's ok really I didn't need that delicious grilled cheese sandwich.

But all things considered we are lucky here in 31.

Down the hall there is a Lady who talks, shouts, fusses, cusses or cries 24/7.Her roomie all I can say is God Bless her.

Lord while your at it just bless us all.We need it.Thank you.

Yes my friends just another day around the old home place.

I've learned my lesson well...never leave your grilled cheese sandwich laying out.

$28,000

$28,000.

I read that's what a wedding these days cost. The average. And in NY state it cost up to $100,000.

Wozie that's a lot of money.

Just think you could buy a super duper nice pickup truck with that money.

You could buy a real nice mobile home with that loot or make a good size down payment on a cabin sitting on 50 acres.

My advice to you who are thinking of getting married(don't ha ha just teasing... really I'm not...go ahead do it...you will find out)) don't fall to that fancy smancy trap of a big wedding.

Go to the Justus O Peace pay 10 bucks and celebrate at your local Krystal.A sack full of Krystal burgers cost only $7 and since it's yall's big day splurge and buy fries.

Shoot fire take that $28,000 and put it in the bank !

Sinister motive

Every so often the subject comes up.I know when the question is asked that it's just small talk, making conversation.

Yesterday it was asked again"do you have any kin people in town".

Well basically no is my standard answer.Aunt (2)and cousins is it.

It happens every time it's asked.

I get theses flashbacks to those movies where a person is asked that question. The motive is sinister.

Somebody looking for a person with no family,no ties to anyone or thing.

Looking for a body,a body close to their description, one who could be their double,a fall guy,a person they could murder by burning them up or a horrific accident so the murderee could not be identified and the murderer could claim insurance money or start a new life as someone else.

Yeah...I know...my imagination is running away again.

Got this feeling

So I'm watching the news this morning. One of the national on cable everyone sees here and around the world and no I will not named the network.

I get this feeling.

A feeling of boredom.I keep waiting for something to start. It's like this is just a rehearsal of the show and the real one will start soon surely.

The anchors looked bored also. The Lady had this look of wanting to be some where else like at home making blueberry pancakes or something just not there.

I did them a favor by turning them off and not watching them suffer through their program.

Hmmm.Blueberry pancakes does sound pretty good.

A cool blustery day in Tahiti

It was a cool blustery day in Tahiti, when the twirly birdy piloted by me landed on that white sandy beach.

My sailor's hat pulled down keeping the wind out of my face over to the Cut and Shoot Dew Drop Inn and Pottery Emporium I strolled.

Just looking for cookies and milk I announced upon entering the bar,not wanting trouble.

The most motley looking people this side of Charlie Chan's hometown of Kalamazoo occupied that dark smoky place.

I seen things that...that frankly never had I seen before and no way Hosea am I telling Momma about it.

Even being a graduate of EFIAARS...Elmer Fudd Institute of Auctioning and Rocketry Science prepared me for this.

Backup may be needed and my luck being as it is Jethro Bodine double naught spy(we be a poor spy agency operating on a shoe string budget and can't afford Bond,James Bond 007) may have to be called in.

My heart beating 90 to nothing I wish my ole gray haired Pappy's advice had been taken and I had stay down on the farm and raised pigs along side my two odd sisters Joe and Herman.

Mrs. Peel(from the Avengers) your help and advice is needed.Besides you be pretty plus I've always had this "thang" for you.

This is a strange time to be thinking of this but I have this craving for a chil burger and fries with a strawberry shake from the Tasty Freeze and I bet bet the closest one is 4,000 miles away in shaky town LA.

Excitement danger follow me where ever...wait what is this....it's just a dream...never happened...hey if it worked for JR on Dallas why can't it work for me???

All in the smell

Years ago in the 1950's nobody I knew bought new cars even into the 60's they where rare.

I just had a blast from the past.

A smell.

A aroma that took me back to then.

Used car lots had this thing of a jig that I guess they used to deodorize cars on the lot. What ever it was smelled good .Sort of a cross between flowers and baby powder is the only thing that comes into mind.

Just got a wiff of it and nice is the word.

They have these automatic deodorizer things mounted on the walls here and every few minutes they spray.

They remind me of vanilla or carmel and it always makes me hungry.

Maybe they will put up a T bone steak and super dooper salad sprayer soon.

Don't forget the crinkle cut fries!

Center of the universe

Hate to be the one that busts your bubble but what I'm about to say is true.

Your family will die off, friends forget and abandon you,you will end up on your own, alone, one form or another.

Just prepare yourself.Be ready.Don't take it so hard.

Survive you will.

Life will go on with or without you.

You are not the center of the universe.

Wish

I just seen a flock of geese(I think)flying towards the Southeast out of the Northwest.

Heard them before I seen them.

Maybe they are headed to Florida for the winter.

Wish I could join them.

Song stuck in my head today

I call it extreme

Watching the news,Fox news,I heard a woman say being beautiful was painful.

Some women are going to what I call extremes.

They are having surgery on their feet so wearing high heels will be more comfortable.Cutting off their pinkie toe, having toes shortening gee wiz I cringe just thinking about it.

Ladies from a man's standpoint your feet are way down on the list of things we notice.

Be comfy, paint your nails pretty, maybe a cute little tattoo and just go barefooted.

Need I say more ?

Ms Amber has this posted on her Facebook page and it made me laugh so hope it does you also!

I need

BP is low, sugar dropping, lost half pound since last month, chili dog(2 please)with large order of onion rings needed desperately.I have my own fork.Big Orange in crushed ice optional.

Dial 444 that's The Varsity's help line.

Tell'em John is in need.

Thank you.

Goobie dust

My little buddy Gary is not feeling well.He has been in out of the hospital several times lately and Gary just isn't himself.

Next Friday the 13th he goes for a colonoscopy.Being the good friend I am I've researched it on YouTube and feel fairly confident I could do the procedure if needed after maybe one more viewing of the video. All I need is 25 feet of  garden hose, flashlight and one of those security cameras attached to the ceiling here.

Yes willing and I think able if my services are needed. But no Gary wants to be fancy and let the professional do it.

The main reason being is the Doctor is female and Gary even though feeling sickly still is the Lady's man womanizer he is famous for around here.

Now for the goobie dust thing.

Never had I heard of goobie dust till Gary got to talking about something called Roots it's like Voodoo I was told by Gary and his Daddy's family practiced it.

Often Gary will roll into the room look around slap his hands together holler out loudly POW explaining he is spreading goobie dust around for good health and luck.

He needs some good health and luck himself but I shall do it the way I know how. That goobie dust I know nothing of.

I'm just praying to our God and His Son Jesus that all is going to be ok.

Please keep my little buddy in your prayers also.

If I was...

If I was back at the old home place about this time of day my big white butter beans would be just about done.Slow cooked on top of the stove with thick soup, salt added and a little vegetable oil for seasoning.

Time for putting the cornbread on,I like mine just a bit on the greasy side, baking it in an old black iron skillet that was Momma's that she got second hand years ago so it probably is close to a hundred years old.

Next on the menu would be sliced and deep fried potatoes to a golden brown, crispy just the way I like them.

Add an onion and that would be dinner and most likely supper also.

What beans left over would go into some home made vegetable soup later on in the week.

I miss being on my own, answering to no one except myself and God doing for myself especially the cooking.

I was happy being a single domestic engineer owning that old home place and driving ole Red the Ford pickup.

Truly the happiest time of my life.

Memories get me by.

Hump Day !

He had a dream

Maybe there is still hope.Hope for people to get along and live side by side .Side by side with tolerance for the others view.Tolerance with understanding.

I just read an news article about the NAACP and the KKK meeting together in Wyoming over the weekend. The KKK leader even joined the NAACP.No NAACP member joined the KKK.The main requirement being you have to be a white person to join.

Real or not I like to think it was a sincere outreaching of hands. Not just a show.

Years ago I was touched to the point of tears as I watched on TV as a black pastor and a member of the KKK embraced each other as friends in a common cause. If my memory serves me right it was about putting the 10 Commandments back into schools.

On the recent anniversary of the march on Washington it would be an high honor if the words of MLK could be put into sincere use.

He had a dream.

It's time we,black and white make that dream come true.

Trucks that have passed by my window today:

Happy Tuesday

Happy thoughts only allowed today.

Today will be Happy Tuesday.Back during WW2 they had meatless Tuesday I am told so why not have a day once a week called Happy Tuesday.

It’s all really just mind over matter I think.Come on try bet we can do it.

Just let the little things of life slip on by.Don’t get hung up on those things that worry or bug you just for one day.One day of the week.Do it.Try.

I’m not even going to complain about today’s menu here at the old folks home even though I know for supper we will be having that rice with beef tips and mushroom gravy.Nope not going to let it bother me.I will just smile and ask for corn bread and sweet milk please.

I will not complain about anything today. What people say and do just going to smile and be happy.

And a very Happy Tuesday to you all!!!

Bad boy rebel

The great American food.

Hot dogs.

Grill'em,boil'em,fry'em.

Add chili,cheese,onion,mustard and ketchup.

Or just eat a plain dog.

Maybe add slaw or sauerkraut.

Eat'em with baked beans, pork and beans, tater chips or fries.

Wash'em down with a cold Coke, big orange just as long as it's cold and has crushed ice.

But please please please don't do this!

What in God's creation are folks thinking about these days?

I see hot dogs on bagel buns, hot dogs with tomatoes, hot dogs with green pepper, hot dogs with bacon(wait a minute that does sound good maybe on a chili dog yeah I could do that)hot dogs with this hot dogs with that least I haven't seen a turkey dog yet thank Jesus.

Yep that simple American food that Ralph Nader(the guy who killed the Corvair) said not to eat more than  2 a week I'm having for lunch and take this Ralph Nader 1 for supper also.

I feel so like a bad boy rebel today!

Dumbing down

Watching a news clip, something about a High School somewhere someplace there it was on their sign.

In big black letters "finger painting level 2 starts today".

Say what!

This is High School not 1st grade.

Shouldn't they be studying calculus, history, brain surgery instead of finger painting (advanced finger painting no less)?

Yes it is true, the dumbing down of America has finally caught up with us.

I can see it now....Daddy asks little Johnny who is in the 12th grade and is 6'5 250 lbs what he learned in school today? Little Johnny answers...duh I finger paint a kitty cat today duh!

America is in trouble...duh.

Maybe after the advanced finger painting class I hope they start a class on ABC's.

Emotional overload

For years maybe a lifetime I’ve had this feeling of numbness. Not talking about body numbness but my feelings toward somethings.Emotional numbness is the word I’m thinking of.

Maybe after seeing hearing watching things one can become numb.

Emotional overload is it possible?

I certainly haven't always been this way.I can remember when at the age of 7 or 8 a friend’s Daddy had a heart attack and died at their house.Thinking how awful this be for my friend I was truly saddened.
Sitting in my classroom on the day of the funeral looking out the window of the second floor looking at the beautiful fall colors of the trees I could see my friend’s house and how sad I felt for him to lose his Daddy.

So I know I haven’t had this numb feeling toward life always.

Now things can happen that should affect me but in all honesty they don’t.

This is what the world will do to a person.Emotional overload. To much bad and you just turn it off in your brain.

A safety valve I guess it could be called.

I never had proof

I never had proof...till now.

All these years of suspicions now it's comes to my attention I was correct.

I just knew down deep in my bones that what they where trying to be just didn't look or sound right. After many sleepless nights tossing and turning not being able to get them off my mind, even biscuits&gravy would not put me to rest.

That look they had when seen out of the corner of my eye always sent chills down my spine, you know that feeling, like when a rabbit crosses your grave.

But thinking it was insane I just put those feelings aside.

Till yesterday.

Reading the news on Yahoo there it was in black and white and it hit me like a 2x4 upside my head.

EARTHLINGS MAY HAVE ORIGINATED FROM MARS!!!!

So that is why some people act a little different, strange they are Martians. That explains so much. Now maybe sleep at night will come easy for me.

But!

Of course I'm not from Mars, nope not me,not a Martian at all.

My excuse for being different, crazy or any other word you want to call me is...my folks came from the hills of Alabama.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Victory

Laying here in bed at 3:09 pm on this Wednesday afternoon I’m listening to a man who comes by every so often and sings.

Victory in Jesus and I’ll fly away just been sung.

I’m not a singer.I love listening to old time Gospel songs but just tap my foot or hum along with the group singing.

This is what’s on my mind.

Just because I don’t sing and shout and pray loudly to the Heavens in public does not mean I’m a non believer, heathen or not a Christian.

My faith has been questioned a few times and like I wrote once it hurt
.
Pray pray hard you’re not praying hard enough you are of little faith I been told.Pray to be healed, pray so you can walk!

Now.

I read in the Bible where my Jesus said go to your room and pray,in secret.

Matthew 6:6

Those that make a spectacle of their praying in crowds or on the street corner have received their reward.

Pray alone with no audience only with God and His Son Jesus Christ!

Pray not to seem holier than thou.

And on this healing thing.

The Bible does not specifically link physical healing with spiritual healing. Sometimes people are physically healed when they place their faith in Christ, but this is not always the case. Sometimes it is God’s will to heal, but sometimes it is not. The apostle John gives us the proper perspective: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him” (1 John 5:14-15). God still performs miracles. God still heals people. Sickness, disease, pain, and death are still realities in this world. Unless the Lord returns, everyone who is alive today will die, and the vast majority of them (Christians included) will die as the result of a physical problem (disease, sickness, injury). It is not always God’s will to heal us physically.

I know God can heal.Jesus healed.

If I’m to be healed Praise God All Mighty thank you.

But if I’m not don’t say I am of little faith, not a Christian just maybe God has another plan another path in this life for me to follow.

Me me me!

Seems like we are living in the Me me me generation.

I’m not talking entirely about young folks .Seems to be plenty in the older generation who belong to the Me me me club.

Plenty of examples I could give but why,it would serve no purpose.Well maybe it would least I could get some of it off my chest.

But then again maybe not.

That would make me part of the Me me me generation.

What awaits us

Often I have wondered what lies beyond the setting sun.

People are fascinated with sun sets.

I am.

Maybe it's something inbred in us humans.I can see in my mind's eye our caveman ancestors clothed in animal skin they killed with a spear or rock sitting around a fire which they didn't understand staring into the sky watching the sun set.

The fear that the sun was gone  for good.

Then the joy in the morning when it returned.

I think we all have that feeling watching the sun set.

What awaits us.

Movie and TV sayings stuck in my head:

Movie and TV sayings stuck in my head:
1.Just the facts Mam.
2.Bookem Dano.
3.I see dead people.
4.Badge? I don't need no stinking badge.
4.I'm your worst nightmare a black man with a badge.
5.Frankly my Dear I don't give a damm.
6.Me?You talking to me?
7.Stella!
8.No more beans cookie!
9.I could have been a contender.
10.Mongo only pawn...in the game of life.
11.Last but not least from Blazing Saddles-Bart...Jim I think Mongo here has taken a liking to you...Mongo...huh huh,naw...Mongo straight.

Self proclaimed con man

See this guy?
His name is Gary Seymore Jenkins.
If you do happen to run up on Gary....run.
Just sit back my friend and let me tell you of Gary.
Gary is like my kid brother who Momma should have snipped off his head when a baby, least that is what I tell him.
Self proclaimed con man, womanizer and sometimes just all around pest.
Once Gary brought me a bag of Tootsie roll pops. How much I owe you Gary I asked?
How much you got on you he answered.$4 is all I got Gary. That will be enough Gary said,I paid him and off he went.
I knew he had took me from the beginning,so I looked up the price of that bag of Tootsie roll pops on the internet from the local Walmart
$1.00 that was the price.
That wasn't my complaint to Gary about being overcharged.
Now get this.
Gary slipped up and told me someone had gave him the bag of Tootsie roll pops.
So it seems Gary overcharged me $3.00 for a bag of candy someone had given him for free!
I could tell more tales of Gary but won't.He has promised to make retribution for conning me who he calls his brother by buying me a big box of Cheezit's which I love.
That was 6 months ago.
Still no Cheezit's.
This morning I told him that I would most likely be dead in the grave by the time he bought those Cheezit's and just sprinkle them on my grave.
We shall see Gary Seymore Jenkins.
Don't let him know but life around here would be dull without him.

Signs it's going to be a bad day:

10.This has nothing to do with the subject but do you know what the last words of a redneck are?
Watch this!

Put it in a bottle

Someone brought me sausage casserole and biscuits with gravy yesterday.

Needless to say I enjoyed it.

That meal filled me up and lasted all day.

One thing about biscuits and gravy it always puts me into a deep peaceful sleep.

Whatever causes that I wish it could be put into a bottle.

Oh by the way.Yesterday I was weighed.160.4 pounds down from 161 of last month.

Yah me I'm eating my self skinny.

Don't wake me up

Walking out of my boots.I do it every night.
Maybe an explanation is needed.
When in bed I wear these boots to protect my feet from blisters because I'm a diabetic plus I have limited motion of my legs and feet.
When I first came here they had me wearing what I called my Herman Munster boots.Talk about causing pain they did.The heel of the boots had steel bars in them to keep my legs straight and my heels off the bed.
Now I wear big soft fluffy comfy boots.Really it feels odd without them on at night.
Each morning when the day nurse comes around to remove the pain patch on my foot for some unexplained reason the boot is unstrapped, loose or off my foot.
Kidding I tell them guess sleep walking is what caused it.
But.
Thinking about it it seems walking should be the most simplest of things to do.But it's not believe me.
Maybe at night when I'm sleep my brain works in mysterious ways.
What if it's a brain over matter thing? What if....
Really as I've wrote before people see me all the time at places I'm not at.
Maybe it was me.
Dreams about walking and running I do have.
Maybe it wasn't a dream.
So if you see me out and about walking don't wake me up.
Just let me walk out of my big soft fluffy boots.

Move on

Something has been on my mind and needs saying.
If your heart isn't into something maybe you would be better just letting it go.
A job, relationship anything.Just move on to what you do want or have a passion for.
Don't let it affect others.

Imagination went wild

I must close the window.
Other night the aroma of potatoes being fried fill the room.My imagination went wild of all the things that could go with that meal.
Hot biscuits, fried salmon patties, baby English peas and homemade creamed potatoes.
I was awoken around 6 am the next day with the smell of bacon.
Yes that window has to be closed.

Strange side

I figured it out.

Hit me like that brick to my head years ago.

So simple why hadn't it been thought of yet.

Last night a full moon.

Now I read of a solar flare heading to Earth.

Plus all this rainy and foggy weather.

So that's what going on.

Why people are acting a bit on the strange side.

Or is it just me?

Cute

Cute.
Watching little kids escorted by parents getting on school bus.
One little kid had sneakers that lit up as she walked.
Parents and kids all waving bye bye.

Starting to worry

It's starting to worry me.
I'm having trouble with names.
Someone will speak to me and for that brief second I can't put a name to the face.
Momma wasn't much older than me when she started having problems with her memory.
Just a senior citizen moment or is it more?
Momma knew something was wrong, she would tell her doctor but he would just laugh saying if you think you have a memory problem you don't.
But she did.
The last couple of years she was alive I was just that man,my name or who I was forgotten.
Lord help me.

Tooting their own horn

It happened quicker than I thought it would.
Yesterday,Dekalb County,Georgia man with gun enters school.
Thank God no one was hurt.
Now I did wonder how long it would take the TV stations before they started patting themselves on the back.
1 day is all it took.
First on the scene, firstest with the mostest etc.
Reporters on the ground, choppers in the sky we are number 1!
Tooting their own horn.

10 things that don't make sense:

10 things that don't make sense:
1.Iced coffee.
2.Wearing a belt with suspenders.
3.Turkey sausage-really why?
5.Comb overs-just don't.
6.Jeeps with chrome all washed up and shiny.
7.Women-haha-just seeing if you was paying attention.
8.Grits with no butter, salt or pepper.
9.Diets.
10.Yeah I noticed it also number 4 was skipped.

Window open.
Sound of crickets.
Lighting in western sky.
Nice.

People talk

People like to talk.

Talk about things they really know nothing about.

Today I'm reminded of something of my youth.

Newnan,Georgia late 1960's I was riding in Daddy's 64 Oldsmobile and this is what I seen.

A old mud covered car on the back of a rollback wrecker escorted by Coweta County sheriff cars. They all pulled into the Coweta County stockade.

A little background information.

A few years before a man disappeared.Without a trace he was just gone.Vanished as if the Earth had opened up and swallowed him.

People being the way they are started talking. This and that so on and so on.Some had sworn he had ran off with another woman and in fact they been seen together after he had disappeared.

Heard someone say they had seen this just a few days before .

That car I mentioned in the beginning you probably guessed was the missing man him still inside .His skeleton anyway.

Seems on his way to work he drove into a pond and sunk.

A man fishing years later after the fact noticed the radio aerial of the car sticking out of the pond and the rest is history.

Moral of story.

Unless you see it with your own eyes don't treat what you hear as the gospel truth.

Riding in the rain

Just have seen a guy riding his Harley in the rain.
Black, low and loud it was and the orange shirt and chrome helmet was a colorful combination.
But.
It's just hard looking cool when riding in the rain.

Vaporized

I was watching the 1953 version of War of the Worlds earlier today.Maybe I've seen it a dozen times or so.

The newer version with Tom Cruise is ok but for me the original movie is best.

One guy in the beginning said to the invader "welcome to California" and the thing vaporizes him and his companions. They where just trying to be friendly and make conversation.

Got to thinking.

Some folks you just can't be friendly with.

Now I've learned you can only reach out so far.I just ignore them.

I won't give them a chance to vaporize me !

They caught on

Ever heard the term"Chinese Copy"?
That's when you fake a copy of something else.
Seems that term could apply to Zoos in China.
One zoo was trying to pass off a dog as an African Lion.
The visitors caught on and asked for admission refund.

Wouldn't you...

99.9% of the folks here at the home are elderly.
Most have a medical problem of some sort.
Some have no other place to go.
I have this idea.
What would be wrong in letting us folks eat what we want?If it's greasy loaded with salt big deal.
What if Granny wants a dip of snuff or a little plug of tobacco and Grandpa wants a smoke every once in a while?
A little hot tottie at bed time to relax instead of all those high powered chemicals pumped into your body.
Even the Bible said take a little wine for thou stomachs sake.
What if old folks where given the right to live what is left of their life the way they want it.
Everyone of you reading this will die someday of something.
Why I think prolong suffering.
Wouldn't you like to have a little control of your own life?
Why should we be the brave warrior enduring the pain of Cancer,Alzheimer's and all the other awful diseases of the body?
Think about it.
This will be you one day.

Not kosher

I like Hardee's fast food
Watching Hardee's commericials on TV is like teasing a man dying of thirst with a bottle of ice cold CoCola it is just plain out mean and not right.
At one time LaGrange had a Hardee's.They move out and Arby's moved in.
That happened at 2 locations.
No more Hardee's in LaGrange.
Get this.
Watching the news today about rioting, killing, snipers, fire and such there in was in big letters that star, their logo, in Egypt, Hardee's !
You know something about this just don't sound kosher to me.

I've been...

I have been dog bit,cat scratched, monkey slapped, horse thrown, run over by a car,hit a car on my bike, slid off barns, hit in head with bricks and baseballs, stuck by sharp pointed darts thrown at me,been in a few BB gun shootouts and more than one rock throwing battle.

No ER trips,no stitches and no broke bones.

Lived to tell about it all.

I can dream

Plate full of fried sliced taters.
Butter beans cooked on the stove, slow, thick juice.
Fried corn flitters a bit on the greasy side.
Big Valdila sweet onion.
Home grown mater sliced.
Battered fried okree.
Fresh white corn.
Cherry cobbler.
I can dream !

Won't be surprised

Window is up and the fresh air is nice.
I'll tell you why.
Like Barney told Andy nip it in the bud.
We have a new roommate and the AC he don't like.Mr B said they where trying to kill him with the cold air blowing down on his head and the newbie... well.
So the air is off my choice.
Maybe that will stop the complaining.
I can take these 90 degree days with no AC myself so lets see how they do.
But I won't be surprised when they say it's to hot.

The visitor

I know better than this. All those books read and old SCFI movies watched why didn't I listen to my gut feelings.

There it was just like in that movie.Pink or red eyes staring at me from outside. Slowly rising into my groggy view from the bottom floor up to my 3rd floor opened bedroom window.

My heart beating like the wings of a hummingbird I tried not to breathe not even move the slightest.Hoping no praying that what ever my visitor was it didn't notice me.

Why was I not surprised when it or whatever it was called out to me.

John...

Three times in my life I have heard my name being called with no one ever seen. The first time I was 4 years old living in Standing Rock,Alabama. At a window looking out I heard my name being called over and over by what to me sounded like hundreds of people.Over the years I've convinced myself it was only the wind heard.Least that's what I think it was.

Again it happened when I was 21.Alone in the middle of the night my name was spoken by a woman.Just once but the name Johnny was used and no one was seen.

A few years ago late at night I heard my name spoken once.John...It sounded like my Momma who has been dead for years.

Remembering what Momma always told me...never answer them...who them where I don't know and never did I answer.

A frosty haze was coming out of my mouth as I took slow deep breaths. The temperature had dropped considerable and it felt like deep winter time in that room even though in was mid August and had been a hot muggy summer night when I went to sleep.

I was scared. This time something is different.

Only once have I seen something that couldn't be explained. What I think was a ghost. The ghost of a childhood friend who was accidentally shot and killed when he was 17.

Maybe one other time a ghost was seen.Late one night while in bed I turned over and seen my friend who had long dark hair and wearing a long old fashioned type dress with her back turned toward me just staring at the wall like she was looking at something.I never said anything and went back to sleep.Morning came around and I asked her what she had been looking for last night. It wasn't me she said.

Another time late at night I heard someone praying. It was peaceful and comforting.Listening closer words I could not make out or understand. Now thinking back it sure sounded like someone chanting something like what Indians would do.Now get this I wasn't the only one in the house to hear that.

This was a very old farm type house that most likely had many families and lifetimes spent in that house.

Never would I say it was haunted but just take it from me strange things went on.

Another time alone in the house plain as day, wide awake I heard the backdoor open and the sound of a woman wearing high heel shoes walking down the wooden floor hall calling someone named Clair was heard but nothing was seen.

Another thing I can't explain.Every since I was a young boy people keep seeing me where I'm not.Seen you there seen you here people tell me didn't you just walk past me people would ask.No sorry it wasn't me.Maybe it's true we all have a twin out there some place but mine seems to be following me around.

My Grandma's each had what is the word...gifts... for the lack of a better term. They both had premonitions and honestly would scare little Johnny to death with some of their stories.Sometimes I wonder if maybe those...gifts...I inherited.

If all was told about those feelings I've had that come true either you wouldn't believe me or think maybe it was time for some MRI's or Cat Scan time so I'll just keep those to myself.

One that I will tell is about the time years ago watching the news on CNN they kept talking about a child being found in a wrecked car with her dead Mother out in California. Why are they talking about this old news I wondered? That happened several weeks ago because I seen it on the news.

No.It was breaking news just happening!

Things like that are common place for me.

Now.

Back to the pink or red eyed visitor at my 3rd floor window.

Never fear as Wonder Dog would say.

It's only some of my weird Haynes kin folk from the hills of Alabama climbing a ladder.

I must teach them about those things called doors.

A change

A change coming.
Don't know if it's cause of all the rain this summer or the fact it's hot or maybe it's just time.
Leaves have a different look to them.
I see yellow leaves falling.

Scandals

How soon we forget.
Scandals of recent times.
Be honest can you remember more than a few of them that kept us spellbound?

Sign me up

I'm joining the Flat Earth Society.
Also the No Moon Landing Hoax Group.
Might as well join up with the JFK conspiracy boys while at it.
Oh by the way Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

Let's go

If I hear one more person bitch, gripe or complain today I don't know what I'll do.
To hot,to cold,don't like this,don't like that.
Jesus I'm ready let's go!

Talk

I dislike talking at times.
Making small talk is difficult.
At times I like talking.
Sometimes I wish a smile would be enough.

Hero

Hero.
That word is used very loosely these days.
At one time to be a hero one had to do something extraordinaire.
Now if one just dies doing his/her job automatically they are called heroes.

Type of day

Tail wagging dog.
Running around like chicken with head cut off.
Faster I go slower I is.
Never ending circle.
That type of day.

Mix up

My roomie Wille is on the way to West Ga Medical Center for gall bladder surgery.
Ambulance came around 6ish and got him.
30 minutes later here they come rolling Willie back into the room.
Some type of mix up,this is closed no it's not thing.
You guessed it after getting Willie back in bed nurses came in saying take him back they are waiting on him.
Loading him up he is on the way back.
Just thinking I hope it's not going to be one of those days at the hospital.
You know, mix ups, miscommunication that sort of thing.
Willie if I was you tell the ambulance folks to stop by Walmart and get a magic marker.
Mark with a big X where they are suppose to cut.
Good luck Willie.

June bugs, fire flies and doodle bugs

Flying June bugs, catching fire flies and hunting doodle bugs.

What child of the South hasn't partaken of those traditional summer time activities.

Tie a string to the leg of a June bug and you have your own live breathing flying machine.

Your Momma would give you a small stick send one aggravating pesky kid out in the yard and show them how to hunt doodle bugs. How that doodle bug hunting song goes I don't remember but doodle bugs would only come out of their hiding place till that song was sung.

Catching fire flies on a warm summer night was so much fun.Out barefooted running through cool grass chasing fire flies at night.

The plan

We have a plan.
Wille,Mr B and me.
That plan is to win the big lottery.
With our winnings we have been talking about how it will be put to good use.
10% off the top goes for God's work.
The rest well we gonna just blow.
The first step is to buy one of those fancy smancy RV's.The big one. With all the comforts of home plus some.
You name it or dream it our RV will have it.
Just traveling around the country where ever our hearts desire to go.
Next a driver.
Now my Georgia drivers license is still good for 7 more years and if you can just get me in the drivers seat I'm sure I can drive it.
But Willie,Mr B and me are going whole hog first class big time so the driving will be left to someone else.
Next on our plan is nurses our own personal nurse.By the way applications are being accepted as I speak.
Next on the needful things list will be a chef.
A chef who do down home style cooking you know the good food, pintos, taters and cornbread.
Now Gary.Just don't tell Gary our friend here at the home. Please do the world a favor and don't mention any of this to Gary.
Let me tell you why.
Gary we all love him like a pesky little brother but Gary rides around in his big red power chair all day and has the bad habit of running over people's feet and toes.
If you have a sore toe Gary must have a sore toe radar system or something and it's guaranteed he will run over said sore toe.
So that is the plan on our good fortune and the big lottery money.
Just please do us all ,the world, all of humanity a big favor, don't tell Gary of our plan.
He will want to drive the bus !

Yesterday Ms Janet who also works here brought me a chocolate sundae loaded with nuts, cherries and whipped cream.
Another Lady who works here,Ms Kathy has promised me BBQ ribs and the trimmimgs around noonish.
I will be so heavy they will have to use a crane for getting me out of bed.
Oh I forgot they already use a lift to do that.

Taking pleasure

Why do we humans love to see someone else suffer?

What pleasure could a normal person get out of that?

Someone falls from grace and us humans glee on the fact somebody got caught doing what shouldn't be done.

I think the real reason we take pleasure in other's suffering is the fact we got lucky and didn't get caught our self.

I'm not crazy I just don't give a darn

I'm bored totally this morning.

So bored I can't take my before lunch nap.I will just wait till after lunch for my daily siesta.

Just how bored you may ask?

Well sit down and let me tell you.

Thought I heard an airplane and I was cricking my neck looking for it but it was just someone cutting the grass here.

So bored I was on YouTube watching cartoons of Daffy Duck.Just like Daffy said "I'm not crazy I just don't give a darn"well spoken Daffy I agree with your philosophy.

Lunch will be boring I know.I want some home cooked pintos, seasoned, add salt please, cornbread not to thick, fried sliced/diced potatoes crispy. If I see anymore frozen TV dinner what they call vegetables I will just give up in disgust.I'm tired of looking at steamed veggies, broccoli and cauliflower.

Like my roommate Mr B said"I have been eating food I like for nearly 100 years so don't tell me what to eat".

Amen Brother Ben I agree.

Same o same o day in day out.

No wonder most of us have Daffy's outlook on life.

The cool Indians

I think this has  been mentioned before.

I'm of Indian blood. It runs through my veins.

Granny Haynes was an Indian the story goes so that makes me least 1/4 Indian.

My Indian ancestors where well what's the word...different.

They where the cool Indians.

Forsaking the usual Indian customs of the time.

Example.

The tribe I belong to didn't wear buckskin clothes. They chose more casual attire.Bermuda shorts T shirts and flip flops was the clothing of choice. And the ever present Ray Ban shades always close by.

My tribe didn't ride ponies.Being of the cool tribe they rode motorcycles. You have heard of Indian motorcycles right?

The Trail of Tears that our fellow brethren from the tribe of Cherokee and Creeks where forced marched from this area of Georgia and Alabama to the reservations out in Oklahoma we got wind of that plan and skipped out on it.

My tribe, the cool Indians leased a Carnival cruise line ship and headed to Jamaica.

If we could not ride our cycles we sure wasn't walking.

So we being of the cool Indian tribe learned new cool things down in Jamaica.
New music like reggae,Bob Marley, and new things to put in our peace pipes.

Life is good when you belong to the cool Indian tribe.

We don't say" how" like most Indians we use this expression "what's up dude?"

Everything I tell you is true.

Believe me right?

Wrap myself up

On this hot muggy day I feel chilled to my bones.

I just want to wrap myself up in a musty smelling old patch quilt take a big feather pillow and go lay under a Pine tree and sleep.

Snuff,smut and kerosene

Snuff,smut and kerosene.

No well equipped first aid kit should be without these essential ingredients.

You may think I'm joking but no it's true.

Back in the old days that's what folks had to work with in medical emergencies.

Everything from stubbed toes to gun shot wounds where treated with these things.

No such thing as going to the emergency room and doctors where far and few.

More than one occasion I have benefited from these treatments.

Bee stings?Use some used if I may add snuff.

Once after being hit in the head with a sharp pointed brick Momma just reached in the fire place and got a little dab a do ya smut and packed that bleeding like a stuck pig hole up.Having a flat top hair do at the time it stuck out like crazy and till this very day I think a black spot on my scalp remains. It was 3rd Sunday in May Decoration Day up in the country. There I sat all dressed out in my white shirt and tie on the Church pew with blood dripping down the side of my head.If anyone noticed they didn't say anything.

I know what you're thinking that sharp pointed brick to my head explains a lot of things about me.

Kerosene was for trauma medical emergencies.

Things like when my Daddy as a kid(I have heard he really had a temper back then)took a ax to his older brother who had made him mad and sliced off my Uncle's heel.No ER.No doctor.Just wrapped the foot up in a kerosene soaked rag.Far as I know it worked.

Another ole timey medical remedy for cowboys. They would carry a bottle of whiskey in their saddle bags in case of snake bites. They also carried a rattler with them in the other saddlebag.Think about that one you will get it.

Don't forget the hot boiling water.Every TV doctor had to have hot boiling water.

I'm sure there are many more home remedies and bet you can think of a few yourself.

Miserable weekend

A miserable weekend.Toothache.Wisdom tooth.

I think.

Talk about pain I had it.

Tooth, ear, eye and my lymph nodes or glands where swollen.

It all started sometime Friday night.

Usually I don't pray for myself but pray I did. Then I figured God gave me enough sense to ask for a pain pill.

Tylenol didn't phase the pain a bit so when the morning nurse came around we went one step higher with pain pills and they worked.

A blessing. The pain would stop for awhile.

So not so bad now not miserable.

Just thankful that God gave people talents to invent things to take away pain.

Detroit Rock City

Detroit is broke,busted,bankrupt.
Years of corruption finally caught up with them.
Years of mismanagement and bad judgement.
But Detroit the motor city has one thing going for it.
A song by Kiss.

Queenie

Boy.It's a boy.The Royal baby watch is over.

Dang that's all the news folks are talking about.

Sorry Quennine baby I really don't care and I'm not interested.

I'm so glad I'm an American and don't have Royal folks that people bow down to.

Those Kings,Queens,Prince and Princess they got a good gig going on over there in GB.

Like that old song by Dire Straights money for nothing.

But that's their business.

If them folks want a King and Quennie more power to them.

Wish for the same

1969 I was 17.
Each week there was a TV program that I watched religiously.
About a free soul on a Harley traveling the United States having a new adventure each week.
I wanted a Harley.
I wanted adventure.
I wanted freedom.
That TV program was called Then came Bronson.
After all these years maybe I still wish for the same.

Hand in the cookie jar

Corrupt people in high places.

Local, state or national it stinks.Every day I hear of it on the news.

Yesterday in a small Georgia town called East Point I hear that 200 million dollars is missing.

Explain to me how does someone misplace 200 million dollars?

Fulton County,Georgia everyday news of someone with hand in the cookie jar.

These people are stealing from you and me and they get just a slap on their hand.

Working man steals and goes to jail.

Bureaucrat steals goes to a country club prison.

Maybe it is good they are where they are, holding office of some sort,in the spotlight just so we can keep an eye on them.

Was I just dreaming

Was I just dreaming?

Did I see that?

When I was 17 my friend J.B. was accidentally shot and he died.

A few weeks later looking out my front door I seen J.B. driving down my street in his old car. The car made no sound. It was like it all was in slow motion.

J.B. looked pale like he did in his casket.

He just had this look on his face as he passed by.

A face of displeasure is the best way I can explain it.

Staring at me as he passed by I can still see that face till this very day 44 years later.

I question myself  till this time if it was real or just a dream.

Did I see J.B's ghost ?

Really

Fine as wine.
Feeling tree top tall.
Fine as frog hair split 3 ways.
Yes that is my mood today. It's really simple.Make the day go as you want.Cost no more to be in a good mood as a grumpy one does.
Think positive.
Don't let others bring you down.
Smile.
Forget.
Don't speak with forked tongue Ke-Ma-Sabee.
Listen I mean really listen.
Be happy.
And no I'm not on any medication.
Really.

Jane that b

Jane that b
She left Tarzan for the civilized world.
Least Tarzan still has Cheeta.
Tarzan better off without Jane.

Umgawa

Umgawa Tarzan sez.

He is on a rampage today.

Jane,Boy and Cheeta are with him in deepest darkest Africa.

Never remember him being such a violent guy when I was a kid.

Tarzan has stabbed, shot with a bow&arrow and used his hands with extreme prejudice on a good many folks in this movie .

Cheeta is running around swiping things.

Maybe it's just good over evil.Tarzan doing his thing.

But that Cheeta I'm keeping my eye on.

4 billion plus stories

Just laying here looking out the window.

Watching traffic on the busy highway.

Folks coming folks going.

A slice of life if I knew their stories.

Some happy some sad some most likely dying or wanting to.

I hear there are over 4 billion people in this world.

4 billion plus individuals and personalities.

4 billion plus stories.
